JOB SUMMARY:
The challenge of medical nursing is best experienced on this 44 bed, telemetry-equipped unit, where nurses care for patients with complex, multi-system health problems. This unit is home to a 44 bed observation area for medical patients. Our nurses practice under a collaborative, multidisciplinary model while caring for a wide variety of patients undergoing treatment in: Gastroenterology, Pulmonary, Infectious Disease, Palliative Care, and General Medicine.
Nurses develop a breadth of knowledge combined with focused expertise unique to each sub-specialty including patients with chronic renal disease, adult cystic fibrosis, and other complex medical conditions. Unique to this acute care area is the ability to care for patients with higher acuity needs without moving them to another location. Several of our private rooms are reserved for increased complex care patients that require more frequent vital signs and nursing assessments, continuous oxygen saturation monitoring or hi-flow oxygen. Several cardiac drips may also be administered. Staff receive specific educational training to care for these patients.
