Magnet® designated since 2009, Porter is a 368-bed acute-care referral center specializing in cancer care, joint replacement, spinal care and advanced robotic surgery, Porter Adventist Hospital treats some of the region's most complex medical cases and surgical patients. Porter's Heart and Vascular Institute is the first and only program in Colorado to receive full Failure Accreditation status from the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care. The Surgical Spine department at Porter Adventist Hospital is an Orthopedic/Spine/Trauma unit with 24 beds, caring for patients following arthroscopic hip procedure, simple to complex spine surgery, trauma, pain management, and general medical concerns. The unit accepts medical overflow and total joint replacement overflow patients. The unit is committed to be a Center of Excellence and patient safety is the top priority. Each team member is given an opportunity to pursue ongoing education and gain knowledge in care of orthopedic/spine/trauma patients, equipment use, and improving patient outcomes. The team takes a personalized approach to care and collaborates with surgeons, hospitalists, pain specialists, nurse practitioners, therapists, case management, and pharmacy to provide safe patient care. The Surgical Spine unit has a one nurse to four patient ratios on days and one nurse to five patient ratios on nights. The unit encourages self-scheduling and requires only four weekend shifts in every six-weekschedule cycle to promote a work-life balance.
