This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. Learn more This position is assigned to the Home-Based Primary Care (HBPC) Program. The HBPC Program provides comprehensive, interdisciplinary primary care services in the homes of veterans with complex and chronic, disabling disease. In addition to primary care interventions, HBPC provides palliative care, rehabilitation, disease management, and care coordination services. HBPC targets veterans in advanced stages of chronic disease, particularly those at high risk of recurrent hospitalization or nursing home placement. The HBPC psychologist functions as the primary mental health provider for the HBPC team, providing mental health prevention, assessment, treatment, management, and professional consultation services. Administrative controls over this position rest with the Associate Chief/Clinical Services, MHSL, as does the final judgment concerning the quality and appropriateness of the psychological services provided. These controls and judgments are carried out in close collaboration with the Director, HBPC Program. The HBPC psychologist functions in accordance with the policies, principals, professional ethics and techniques of accepted psychology practice to include the American Psychological Association, professional licensing codes, and state law. Additional guides are available in the form of VHA directives, program guides, bulletins and circulars, medical center memoranda, Medical Staff By-Laws, applicable labor-management bargaining agreements, and external accreditation agencies utilized by the medical center (e.g., Joint Commission, CARF). The incumbent is expected to independently make use of these guides in a creative, flexible manner and must use sound judgment in selecting techniques or introducing new practices and methods, adapting these as necessary to fit the needs of the patient population with which he/she serves.
