This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Learn more The purpose of this position is to function as a Pain/Behavioral Medicine Psychologist at the Mann-Grandstaff VA Medical Center. Incumbent provides assessments and interventions designed to address issues and symptoms associated with medical conditions typically treated within the Medical Services. This includes but is not limited to adjustment to chronic medical illness, pain management, sleep disorders, weight management, tobacco use cessation, and issues related to non-adherence to medical treatment regimens. The modalities include but are not limited to individual, group, couples, and family psychotherapies. Duties will include: Provides a full range of psycho-diagnostic services including assessment for a wide range of psychological and behavioral medicine issues for patients with acute and chronic medical conditions and disabilities. Provides a full range of therapeutic interventions in specialty medical clinics, Primary Care clinics, and through consults/referrals that include empirically validated treatments for anxiety and depression, behavioral pain management strategies, motivational enhancement interventions, couples/family interventions, smoking cessation, weight loss, organ transplant evaluations, bariatric surgery evaluations, psychoeducational interventions and crisis interventions. Best practices, practice guidelines and evidence-based treatment protocols are utilized to the extent feasible in all therapeutic interventions. Applies adjunctive interventions for treatment of medical disorders and pain. Experience in providing biofeedback/clinical hypnosis with these populations is highly desired. Incorporates new clinical procedures and is open to engage in competency-based supervision to learn evidence-based treatments as needed. Provides screening for cognitive deficits to address specific functional questions or to determine if a referral for a complete neuropsychological evaluation or cognitive assessment is needed Develops person-centered, culturally sensitive treatment plans to address comorbid medical/mental health needs of patients. Provides professional advice and consultation in areas related to professional psychology, especially pain management, but also potentially to include other medical psychology populations (e.g., transplant, palliative care, geriatric populations). Provides collaboration and consultation with affiliated departments and programs (e.g., Primary Care-Mental Health Integration, General Mental Health Clinic, Substance Use Disorder Treatment Program, Suicide Prevention). Tracks consultations and provides timely contact with newly referred patients. j Produces timely, appropriate documentation of care in accordance with agency policies. Serves as an integrated member of the interdisciplinary treatment team(s) for Veterans, collaborating closely on a daily with the team regarding care for patients. Assists with referrals to specialty mental health care as needed. At the GS-13 level: As faculty member and member of training committee for facility's APA-accredited clinical psychology internship. Provides training and clinical supervision to interns in the program. Contributes to meetings and faculty training associated with the internship. Serves as faculty member for regional psychiatry residency. As requested, provides training and consultation for psychiatry residents doing rotations in inpatient psychiatry. Seeks and maintains clinical appointment through residency-affiliated university. Provides training and clinical supervision to trainees in other behavioral health disciplines, medical students, nursing students, and trainees of other disciplines, as assigned.
