The Division of Palliative Care at MedStar Washington Hospital Center has a full-time position available for a Palliative Medicine Nurse Practitioner. A member of MedStar Health, Washington Hospital Center is a bustling 912-bed tertiary care academic hospital in the heart of the District of Columbia, one of the country’s most progressive cities. Additionally, the hospital hosts the Washington Cancer Institute and MedStar Heart and Vascular Institute, the largest specialty practices of their kind in the area, and is a major teaching site for the Georgetown University School of Medicine.
Along with two palliative NPs, our rapidly growing program includes physicians, social workers, clinical pharmacists, and chaplains. We also host the ACGME-accredited MedStar-Georgetown Interprofessional Palliative Care Fellowship Program that annually trains a palliative nurse practitioner fellow, in addition to a palliative social work fellow, and four palliative physician fellows (www.medstarwashington.org/palliativefellowship). We also serve as an elective teaching and research site for the Georgetown University School of Medicine.
Our mission is to provide expert interdisciplinary Palliative Care to Washington Hospital Center’s patients and their families, teach primary Palliative Care skills to our colleagues, and contribute to Palliative Care scholarship through our developing MedStar Health Palliative Research program.
We seek a compassionate clinician with sophisticated communication skills, expertise in symptom management, career interest in Palliative Care clinical practice and education, and comfort operating in an interdisciplinary framework. The perfect candidate will be passionate, driven, and curious as opportunities abound for exploration of personal interests in the field of Palliative Care. The successful applicant will join the Washington Hospital Center Department of Medicine faculty and serve as core faculty in our interprofessional fellowship program.
Responsibilities will include both inpatient and outpatient consultation, and supervision of students, residents and fellows across clinical disciplines. BC/BE in Hospice and Palliative Medicine is encouraged. An active interest in scholarship and/or research is welcome. Mentorship is available.
