As a non-profit, serving the community for over 40 years, Community Hospice not only provides care for adults and children with serious illness and at the end of life, but also education and bereavement services to the entire community. Each year Community Hospice operates Camp Erin of the Central Valley, a bereavement camp for children and teens that have experienced the loss of a close loved one. The staff of Community Hospice is knowledgeable, compassionate and skilled at focusing on patient and family centered care. Position Summary The Medical Director oversees the medical component of the Hospice and Palliative Care plans for each patient. The physician is knowledgeable about the psychosocial and medical aspects of hospice care, reviews, coordinates, and is responsible for the management of clinical and medical care for all patients in the program. The Medical Director participates in quality management and educational programs for the staff, patients, and medical community. The Medical Director participates in the strategic planning and development of hospice and palliative care services as well as actively participates and provides leadership in quality management, physician performance issues, clinical guideline development, patient satisfaction initiatives and utilization review. The Medical Director provides oversight of the Associate Medical Directors and Nurse Practitioners, participating in orientation, provider peer review, quality review and evaluation. The Medical Director acts as the physician representative on the interdisciplinary team and serves as the attending physician to certify and recertify for subsequent election periods that a patient is terminally ill. The Medical Director in this position is responsive to the medical community to assure high quality, appropriate and efficient utilization of hospice and palliative care services.
