The Staff Accountant, under the direction of the Accounting Supervisor/Manager, performs a variety of functions supporting the organization s finance department. The individual should possess a background in finance with strong organizational and analytical skills. The finance department values teamwork to form a cohesive group. However, as goals and objectives of the group constantly evolve, considered candidates must have demonstrated the ability to perform independent work while managing multiple projects.
Ensure financial records are maintained in compliance with accepted accounting policies and procedures
Work on month end and year end closings. Ensures accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year-end close reports
Monitor and maintain effective accounting control procedures
Ensure accurate and appropriate recording and analysis of revenues and expenses
Resolves accounting discrepancies and irregularities
Continuously manage and review budget variances
Prepare general ledger entries by maintaining records and reconciling accounts
Prepare monthly balance sheet account analyses and ensure reconciliation to the general ledger
Answer accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data.
Protect organizational assets by ensuring the confidentiality of information
Prepare for financial audits and coordinate the audit process as needed
Work independently, with broadly defined work objectives and limited supervision.
Other duties, as assigned
Bachelor s Degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field.
Minimum of two to three year s relevant experience in professional accounting, preferably in a healthcare setting.
Demonstrated ability to analyze financial reports and prepare and maintain various supporting schedules.
Strong understanding of the relationship between income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
Strong knowledge of accounting principles and procedures.
Team player with excellent oral/written communication skills.
Proficient using Microsoft Office applications especially the analytical and financial tools in MS Excel.
Working knowledge of in accounting software packages including PeopleSoft.
Ability to meet deadlines and to function under minimal direction.
Ability to communicate and work effectively with a diverse group of business professionals at all levels of the organization including management, physicians, support staff, patients, and customers.
