President and Chief Executive Officer
for Peterson Health
A Top 20 Rural Hospital - Two years into Baldrige Journey
in beautiful Kerrville, Texas
This is an outstanding opportunity to capitalize on a state-of-the-art medical center, growing the organization’s financial position while remaining independent, and transitioning the organization to an extended healthcare delivery model, enabling a revitalized health system to continue to serve a wonderful community. This opportunity is available due to the retirement of a long-term CEO. Baldrige and Studer are key components of this role.
The Organization: Financially strong, Peterson Health is an independent, private, not-for-profit community-based healthcare system located in the heart of the Texas Hill Country in Kerrville. With net revenues of more than $125 million, 900 employees and 250 medical professionals, the PRMC family has been the largest employer in Kerr County for many decades. Serenely settled on a scenic 35-acre campus, the 124-bed hospital features comfortable private rooms. Within the main campus is an ED and over 25 key service lines. Peterson’s neighboring Ambulatory Care Center offers outpatient surgical services, radiology and imaging, outpatient rehabilitation and an advanced Wound Healing Center offering two hyperbaric oxygen chambers — the only of their kind available in the region. Peterson’s services also include Hospice, Homecare, Medical Associates, Outreach Lab, Community Care, Urgent Care; and Peterson’s Specialty Care in Kerrville and Boerne, recently named “Best Medical Specialty” by readers of the Boerne Star. Peterson recently opened a new family practice clinic in Bandera. The organization has a stable and growing physician practice -- and the Board is engaged, knowledgeable and supportive of the CEO and organizational efforts.
The Opportunity: The Chief Executive Officer reports to the Board of Directors and works closely with the hospital management and leadership of the organized medical staff in developing strategic direction and major policies of the institution. The CEO will be a collaborative and very visible leader, both in the community and at all Peterson Health entities.
The Candidate: The ideal candidate will be a visionary leader who understands the shifting trends from inpatient services to outpatient services and how it will affect the financial health of the organization. The CEO must be focused on growth, and also committed to keeping Peterson Health independent. The CEO will have five years of experience as a CEO within an acute-care hospital of a similar size or as COO of a larger hospital organization. The scope of the experience must go beyond the hospital, with substantial experience in building and leading outpatient services, physician practices and other external entities. The CEO must be committed to supporting the Baldrige Performance Excellence framework and be familiar with Studer Group initiatives. Experience leading improvements in technology will be valued. Not-for-profit experienceis beneficial. A master’s degree is required and FACHE certification is preferred.
