The Division of Palliative Care at MedStar Washington Hospital Center has a full-time position available for a Palliative Care nurse practitioner. A member of MedStar Health, Washington Hospital Center is a bustling 926-bed tertiary care hospital in the heart of the District of Columbia. Additionally, the hospital hosts the Washington Cancer Institute and MedStar Heart and Vascular Institute, the largest specialty practices of their kind in the area.
The mission of the Division of Palliative Care is to provide expert Palliative Care to Washington Hospital Center’s patients and their families, teach primary Palliative Care skills to our colleagues, and contribute to Palliative Care scholarship through our developing MedStar Health Palliative Research program.
The nurse practitioner would join a collaborative, interdisciplinary team including a nurse practitioner, social workers, a chaplain, clinical pharmacists and physicians. The team also welcomes three fellows in our ACGME-accredited Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship Program (www.medstarwashington.org/palliativefellowship).
We seek a compassionate clinician with sophisticated communication skills, expertise in symptom management, career interest in Palliative Care clinical practice and education, and comfort operating in an interdisciplinary framework. The perfect candidate will be passionate, driven, and curious, as opportunities abound for exploration of personal interests in the field of Palliative Care. The successful applicant will serve as core faculty in our HPM fellowship program.
Responsibilities will include inpatient and outpatient consultation as well as intermittent informal and formal teaching for students, residents and fellows. An active interest in scholarship and/or research is encouraged. The ideal candidate will have obtained Advanced Certified Hospice and Palliative Nurse certification, though not required for consideration.
